In mountainous Kyrgyzstan, winter stretches from November through late March, with night-time temperatures frequently falling to −25 °C to −30 °C, and lower in highland areas. In rural villages and outskirts around Bishkek and the Chuy Valley, most low-income homes rely entirely on coal-burning stoves for heating.
At Altyn Uya Public Foundation, our field team visits vulnerable households ahead of and throughout the winter season to identify families raising orphans, single mothers, elderly residents, and households facing severe hardship.
Your contribution ensures that children don’t have to endure freezing rooms and can focus on their schooling and health in a warm, dignified home.

Winter temperatures in Kyrgyzstan typically fall to −25 °C to −30 °C, and lower in the highlands. Through our Winter Coal Support programme, Altyn Uya delivers heating coal directly to the homes of orphan families and vulnerable households so children can study and sleep in a warm, safe home.
