Altyn Uya Public Foundation education and student sponsorship programme in Kyrgyzstan

Everything Begins with a Smile: Back-to-School Support in Kyrgyzstan

Every meaningful transformation begins with the bright smile of a child who feels valued and supported. Ahead of the academic year, the Altyn Uya Public Foundation hosted an extensive back-to-school distribution programme for orphaned and vulnerable students residing in Bishkek and surrounding rural communities.

Through this annual initiative, around 1,000 orphaned children were equipped with sturdy backpacks, comprehensive stationery sets, tailored uniforms, and durable shoes to begin their classes with confidence and enthusiasm.

Thorough Community-Level Planning

To ensure support was accurately targeted, field visits took place throughout July, and the distribution fair ran from 15 August to 1 September. Field teams partnered with local school principals and community committees to assess students’ requirements:

  • Dedicated Transportation: Families residing in outlying rural villages were provided with safe round-trip transportation to the main distribution venue.
  • Interactive Selection: The distribution area was organised like a welcoming fair, allowing boys and girls to personally pick their favourite backpack colours and try on properly fitted garments.
  • All-Inclusive Educational Supplies: Each pack contained sufficient notebooks, writing tools, artistic supplies, and geometry sets to cover needs throughout the academic calendar.

“Education is the most powerful catalyst to break cycles of poverty. Equipping a student with self-confidence on day one lays the groundwork for lifelong achievement.”
